the best defense is a good offense

MIC Audits, as part of the Medicaid Integrity Program (MIP) are now underway in many regions. MIC Audits are unique, conducted in distinct steps with each managed by a different type of MIC Audit Contractor. Review MICs are data-mining now, looking for coding and billing errors, such as upcoding, medical necessity and uncovered services. Their findings and recommendations will be issued to Audit MICs who will initiate audits including both desk review and on-site audits.

According to some estimates from CMS, the MIC Audits are expected to generate greater recoveries and more revenue than the highly publicized Medicare RAC program. Without the proper tools, healthcare providers and MCOs risk losing legitimate revenues through the MIC Audits.
