The DOL (Department of Labor) is increasing its focus on compliance with labor laws with specific emphasis on wage and hour regulations. With promotional programs encouraging employees to report suspected violations, this renewed emphasis on compliance now poses significant regulatory and monetary risks to employers. As one example of recent sanctions, in 2010 one of the DOL settlements totaled $85 million.
